Four seniors from South Tahoe High School competed in the Rotary Club of South Lake Tahoe’s annual music contest at Harrah’s. The four participants were Liana Novak, xylophone; Ollis Brown, bass clarinet; Melissa Ewing, euphonium; and Alexis Holmes, piano. Each song played was a solo between three-to-six minutes long and ranged from classical to more contemporary pieces.

“All the contestants did a fantastic job and gave our judges the very difficult job of deciding our first, second, third and fourth place winners,” said Dick Derby, Rotary president.

In the end, Melissa Ewing was awarded first place and $150 cash prize. Second place and a $100 cash prize went to Alexis Holmes. Third place went to Ollis Brown and fourth place was awarded to Liana Novak.

“The Rotary Club of South Lake Tahoe congratulates these exceptional students,” Derby said.
