ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. – The postseason might not have ended with a State championship, but four of Whittell’s best baseball players over the course of the 2011 season were honored by the NIAA Thursday.

Alex Potnick and Alex Vogt were named first team All-State for the second consecutive season while Julian Washelefsky and Matt Elliot earned honors as well at the 2A level.

Both Potnick and Vogt were two of the Warriors best hitters over the course of the season and Vogt’s ability on the mound – especially over the second half of the season – made them stand out.

Washalefsky registered just 18 at bats for head coach Starbuck Teevan last season, but his six wins at the pitchers spot and .385 batting average were reason enough to get him onto the second team All-State.

Matt Elliot, a freshman catcher, was hands-down one of the best backstops in the entire Mount Rose League. His bat too came alive at the State finals as he was three-for-three with four runs batted to open the State finals in a 8-2 win over Needles.
