Frank Vanek Jr.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Sierra Community Church, 1165 Sierra Blvd., for Frank T. Vanek Jr. (Red), who died on April 12 in Van Nuys, Calif. He was 67.

Frank was born Aug. 18, 1938, in Los Angeles. Having always been mesmerized by the beauty of Lake Tahoe, Frank and his family moved to Lake Tahoe in 1974 where he resided for 32 years. During that time, he owned and operated High Mountain Photo and Framing.

He had a passion for photography and won awards for his photos. He used his talent to assist photography classes at Lake Tahoe Community College.



Frank also owned and operated Vanek’s Engine Specialist. He had a love for fast engines, fast cars and fast snowmobiles. He owned a funny car and raced the Circle Track in Carson City, Nev., and Roseville, Calif. He was highlighted in Hot Rod Magazine for a dune buggy he built called, “The Big Wheel.” He was also active with the local N.A. and A.A. and enjoyed square dancing.

He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.



Frank is survived by his daughters, Barbara Conway and Diann Vanek of Folsom, Calif.; son, Ed Vanek of Helena, Mont.; mother, Dorothy Vanek of Van Nuys, Calif.; brother, George Vanek of Van Nuys, Calif.; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a second great grandchild due any day now.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Vanek Sr.

A reception will follow the memorial service.
