Free Aikido classes offered

Tribune

In the month of May Blue Lake Aikido is offering two Aikido classes risk free. Children ages 4 to 13 and adults of all ages are invited to participate in a basic self-protection class. Participants will practice how to become more aware of their surroundings, getting to the ground safely, using their voices, and the basis self-protection technique, sumiotoshi. For both age groups there will be an emphasis on applying the lessons to real life situations — at school, at work and at home.

Children between the ages of 8 to 13 are invited to come from 5 to 5:50 p.m. and adults from 6 to 6:50 p.m. on May 9. Children should bring a parent or guardian. Each class will be followed by a short question and answer period. Spectators are welcome. For more information or to make a reservation call (530) 544-0202 or e-mail bluelakeaikido@yahoo.com.

Aikido is an ethical philosophy based on the practical application of non-violence. The physical techniques are based not on power, but on natural movements and the fluid movement of energy from one’s center. Through Aikido one will learn to move with total freedom, unrestrained by strict forms. Grace comes in the form of flowing movements. Power comes from the confidence of knowing that one is safe.

The directors of Blue Lake Aikido, Jan and Mark Dulyanai, are professional full-time Aikido instructors and second degree black belts.
