Free, floating concert Sunday at Tahoe City

Matthew Fay Mumbo Gumbo plays aboard the Tahoe Gal off the Tahoe City Marina from 5:30-8 p.m. Sunday. Float on out and catch the vibes.

A boat will rock on Sunday.

The band Mumbo Gumbo will perform a free, floating concert aboard the Tahoe Gal in the lake outside of the Tahoe City Marina and Commons Beach. Music will be played from 5:30-8 p.m.

It is the second year Tahoe Gal owner Larry Boerner has presented music on the lake. Mumbo Gumbo also played in 2010.

“We invited the community out with any type of floatation devise they have to gather around our boat and listen to a free, floating concert,” Boerner said. We had 50 boats of all kinds. We had stand-up boards, canoes, kayaks, Jet Skis. People were tethered together. We had well over 100 people. It was just a great event and I couldn’t wait to do it again.”

Mumbo Gumbo is from the Sacramento region. It plays a dancable blend of zydeco, pop and rock. The septet has been together more than 20 years.

A side paddlewheeler, the Tahoe Gal has four tours a day. It has live music during its Sunday dinner cruise, and a family friendly magic act on Monday nights.
