Free mammograms for uninsured women

Provided to the Tribune

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For the past three years, Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe and Barton HealthCare System have partnered to offer complimentary mammogram screenings for uninsured Tahoe residents.

Applications are available now at the Family Resource Center, El Dorado Public Health Department, Stateline Medical Center, and Barton’s Community Clinic.

Financial need will be evaluated and once the application is approved, women will be given a number to call for mammograms to be done at either Barton or Stateline Medical Center.

Interpretations of the results will be done on a complimentary basis by Sierra Nevada Medical Imaging radiologists. Interested parties must go to one of the locations to complete an application. We have made arrangements for Louise Lake in the Barton Hospital Health Resource Center to take any calls for the free mammograms. Her number is (530) 543-5537.
