Friday is the deadline for State Fair entries

Provided to the Tribune

Friday’s deadline for submitting entries for the Industrial and Technology Education Competition is rapidly approaching. Prizes include cash, ribbons and the coveted Golden Bear for Best of Show. The winning entries will be exhibited at the California State Fair from Aug. 15 to Sept. 1.

This competition showcases the work of students and instructors in the following industrial and technology education-related courses: architectural drafting, mechanical drafting, graphic communications, new media, general technology, photography and construction.

For 2008, the California State Fair is promoting the incorporation of closed-caption technology, green building design, energy efficiency and the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Association codes into any industrial and technology education entry. There will be $100 cash and official ribbons awarded to the entries that best demonstrate the utilization of these technologies.

An instructor competition division is open to industrial and technology education instructors who have at least one student entered in the competition.

Completed entry forms and a fee of $6 per entry are due by Friday. For competition guidelines and entry information, go to http://www.bigfun.org or e-mail Cottie Johnson, youth exhibits coordinator, at CJohnson@calexpo.com.
