Friday’s ski and board report for Kirkwood, Heavenly and Sierra-at-Tahoe

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend arrives with great ski and board conditions. Temperatures are expected to be in the high 30’s and sunny blue skies today, according to Heavenly’s Web site. Winds may affect lift operations this morning. Call 800-HEAVENLY or check http://www.skiheavenly.com for updates. Groomer’s picks are Big Dipper in Nevada, and Ridge run in California. Terrain parks open today are Comet, Powderbowl, or Groove runs. Lifts open at 9 a.m.

The Cal Marching Band comes to Heavenly today. Live performances:

Boasting the largest base depth in Lake Tahoe, Kirkwood is now taking advantage of its high angle grooming capabilities to flatten its entire upper mountain, according to its Web site. Guests can expect smooth corduroy off of Chairs 4, 6 and 10 in addition to over 28 groomed runs on the lower mountain. Kirkwood’s grooming crews have also been busy this week putting the finishing touches on the resort’s halfpipe, Skier/Boarder X Course and three existing terrain parks.
