Friday’s ski and snowboard report for Heavenly, Kirkwood and Sierra-at-Tahoe
Good morning. Here is the ski report today at South Shore’s closest ski resorts, Sierra-at-Tahoe, Kirkwood Mountain Resort and Heavenly Mountain Resort. With cold weather and a snowpack that hasn’t melted off much since last week, the resorts plan to expand their operations with more lodges and lifts opening beginning this weekend. Expedition Kirkwood, an event that kicks off the ski season with workshops, live music and appearances by Lynsey Dyer will happen all this weekend at the resort. Heavenly Mountain Resort reports it will operate seven lifts today with skiing and riding on eight open trails along 3 miles of skiable terrain available. The resort will open the California Lodge on Saturday, just in time for the weekend. Tree skiing remains prohibited until further notice. There’s no word yet on its other mountain stations and lodges. Lifts open at 9 a.m.

This morning the resort reports a temperature of 14 degrees, with moderate winds and partly cloudy skies. Highs today are expected to reach 41. Kirkwood will open Chair 6 on Saturday as well as Timber Creek day lodge, Chairs 7 and 9.
The resort encourages skiers and boarders to get their season pass before prices increase on Monday.

Cross Country trails are open mid-week with 8 kilometers of machine groom track in the meadow plus 30 kilometers of snowshoe trails. The hours of operation are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A Skate Ski clinic will be held on Sunday. The clinic is open to all levels of skiers. Come and learn all about the new natural movements of skate skiing. The cost for the clinic is $30 ($10 equipmental rental). Call (209) 258-7248 for reservations or more information.

Clear skies and cool tempeeratures are forecasted today. It was 19 degrees this morning at the resort. Sierra reminds skiers of the upcoming Christmas holiday festivities that begin on the Mountain Dec. 21. Santa will be on the slopes as well as his reindeer, music, snowmen and snowwomen docorating contests and more.
