Dan Thrift / Tahoe Daily Tribune/ Displaying a few of the items that will be available at the South Lake Tahoe Branch Library summer book and crafts sale are, from left, Maria DeLallo, Katharine Miller and Candace Kelly. The library is accepting donations for the sale.

The Friends of the Library will conduct its “2005 Summer Book and Crafts Sale with Live Music” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 13. The event will take place in the South Lake Tahoe Branch Library conference room, 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.

The used book sale will include many hard-bound books, paperbacks, and some children’s books. There will also be a limited amount of VHS, DVDs, and books on tape. Prior to the public sale, there will be a preview available free to members of the South Lake Tahoe Friends of the Library and to people who pay a $5 admission fee, from 6 to 8 p.m. August 12. Memberships to the Friends of the Library will be available at the preview.

On hand at the summer book sale will be some local artisans selling handcrafted items. Proceeds from the sale of the items will help benefit the library. Come and support some of our local artisans.

Live music will be provided by David Blonski, a multi-instrumentalist who makes and plays the flute, Didjeridu, Indian flute and a wide variety of world, folk and percussion instruments, to create beautiful and relaxing music.

Also available will be various numbered Thomas Kinkade prints available at very deep discounts. In addition, there will be a very limited number of Kinkade gift items for sale at extreme discounts. The book sale will be a perfect time to shop for the Kinkade aficionado in your life. All proceeds from the sale of the Kinkade gift items will benefit the South Lake Tahoe Library children’s programs.

Free Starbucks coffee will also be available while supplies last on the day of the sale. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to purchase bargain summer reading materials.

The library is still accepting donations of books and audio/visual materials (VHS, DVD & books on tape) for the sale. We would greatly appreciate materials only in good condition and with a copyright date no later than 2000. Please be considerate as it takes great time and effort to process the donations for sale.

Anyone who is interested in helping with the book sale should call the South Lake Tahoe Branch Library at (530) 573-3185 or sign up at the library. The library hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
