Fund-raiser benefits the Special Olympics

A fund-raiser to benefit Team Tahoe Northern California Special Olympics has been scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. Dec. 7 at Chevys Fresh Mex Restaurant, 3678 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Tip-a-Cop is a fun filled event that bonds the community and develops partnerships, all for a worthy cause. Partnering with a local restaurant the police department provides officers to team with regular wait staff at the restaurant and wait on tables. The officers during the course of their duties educate the customers about the event and Special Olympics and solicit “tips” as donations fro Special Olympics. The “tips” solicited are in addition to those given the regular food server.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for persons 8 years of age and older with developmental disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Special Olympics is founded on the belief that people with learning disabilities can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy and benefit from participation in individual and team sports. These must be adapted only as necessary to meet the needs of people with mental and physical limitations
