Fund raising sets record at Heavenly

Competing in the Face Odyssey 2001, 10 skiers set an all-time new record for vertical feet skied and runs taken on The Face at Heavenly Ski Resort last Tuesday.

The eight-hour competition which raised up to $10,000 in pledges for the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, saw the team of skiers each complete their initial goal of 61 laps down the 1,650-vertical-foot face in the first six and a half hours. Spurred on by the charitable nature of the event, the skiers continued to take laps down the face and at the end of the day, David Beronio, 24, had completed a total of 71 runs. He was followed closely by several of his teammates who completed anywhere from 64 to 70 runs.

“The event was a lot of fun,” said Beronio. “We worked hard together as a team, cheering each other on for a good cause.”

With the success of this year’s event, Heavenly Ski Resort is making plans for Face Odyssey 2002.
