Fundraiser for Lake Tahoe resident Stacey Ballard on Saturday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE – Long-time South Shore resident Stacey Ballard was diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis, a rare genetic liver disease, about 20 years ago. Her liver started to fail four years ago, and now she needs a liver transplant.

She was on the waiting list at UC Davis Medical Center for two years, but the center closed because of lack of funding. She then moved to Florida with her husband, Gary, after finding out she could be on the transplant list at the Mayo Clinic. Now she is waiting for a liver.

A fundraiser will take place Saturday to help Ballard with the expenses. The event will have music, pizza, beer, a bake sale and a silent auction, which still needs donations.

Donations can be made at Grass Roots, where Ballard worked for 10 years. A Stacey Ballard Transplant Fund has also been set up at El Dorado Savings at the “Y.”

The fundraiser will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Mount Tallac Brewing Co., 2060 Eloise Ave. in SouthLake Tahoe.
