Gar Woods Grill & Pier hosting Jameson whiskey tasting

The purchase of a specialty cocktail is your entry ticket to a Jameson whiskey tasting at Gar Woods.

If you go ...

What: Jameson Whiskey Tasting

Where: Gar Woods Grill & Pier (5000 North Lake Blvd., Carnelian Bay, Calif.)

Tickets: Free with purchase of specialty drink

Is there anything more drinkable than a good Irish whiskey?

The smooth flavor allows even the most sensitive of sippers to gulp it by the glass. Added bonus: it goes great in coffee for that necessary pick me up.

In the Irish whiskey world, perhaps no brand is more widely known (and consumed) than Jameson. It’s like the Irish version of Jack Daniels — the label itself has become iconic.

At Gar Woods Grill & Pier on Wednesday, Jan. 16, it’s all about the Jame-O.

The establishment, located for its stunning views due to the fact it’s located right on the lake, is hosting a spirit tasting featuring three members of the Jameson whiskey family.

How, you might be asking, do the folks at Jameson get that trademark smoothness?

“Well first we take the best of pot still and fine grain whiskeys,” the Jameson website explains. “Then we triple distill them — not because we have to because we want to as it gives it its signature smoothness. Finally, we age them in oak casks for a minimum of four years.”

Yup, that’s what you can look forward to Wednesday.

The best part: the sampling is free with the purchase of a specialty drink from the bar. No, that’s not a mistake. Buy a drink, get more drinks at no added cost. (Caveat: This is a spirit tasting, not a mid-bender trip to the pub.)

Complimentary appetizers will be provided during the tasting, which will take place upstairs where it’s damn near impossible to beat the view.

The event might fill up the already-popular dining area fast, so if you’re hoping to grab a table you may want to arrive early.

The tasting starts at 5:30 p.m.
