Garden club hosts short-season workshop

Gardening will be the major theme of a public program to be given from 1 to 4 p.m. June 3 at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. The instructor will be Glenn Davis of the El Dorado County Master Gardener Program under the auspices of the University of California Extension Services. All are welcome.

Topics covered are vital to the mountain terrain. They include how to extend the garden season from the normal growing season by using short season seeds, preseason warming techniques and landscape selection. Also included will be a section on drought tolerant plants.

The program is sponsored by the South Tahoe Garden Club, a group founded in the 1950s and empowered by the thought that anyone can have a garden in the mountains. There is no charge and refreshments will be served.
