Gardnerville Walmart opens

The Gardnerville Walmart opened its doors after a 7:30 a.m. ceremony today.

The 152,373-square-foot store, located at 1511 Grant Drive, began construction in April 2012.

Store officials say that the new store will employ about 250 workers.

The Douglas High School marching band is expected to perform at the opening of the store.

The only satellite business announced so far for the surrounding commercial space is a Golden Gate Petroleum gas and convenience store, with room for a fast food restaurant.
