General manager’s note: Tahoe Daily Tribune to sell building
June 18, 2010
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Tribune’s building is for sale as we are currently seeking a space that is more suitable to our employees. There is nothing to read between lines in our decision, as it is pretty straight forward.
The newspaper building was originally constructed to house offices for our editorial, sales, production, circulation press and mail room departments. At one point it was the central printing facility for all our newspapers in the area.
In the past years, press and production have moved to our consolidated printing plant in Carson City and we now have less employees working out of our building. Our building is too big and that’s what led us to list the property for sale.
We know that such decisions inevitably lead to rumors. Allow us to squelch those now: We’re not closing. We’re not reducing the days we publish. The newspaper is not for sale. We realize this process may take time, and look forward to finding the perfect place in the future for our staff. I think I’ll vote for a lakefront building … maybe that’s dreaming a little!
Will the building sell? We don’t know, but we hope so, as it will be an indication of an improving economy – something we all want to see.
