George William Asay

Services will take place Aug. 18 for George William Asay, who died Aug. 15, 2004, at Reno, Nev. He was 61.

George was born Aug. 5, 1943, at Memphis, Tenn., to Charles Verne Asay and Anne Ruth Thornton. He married Sheri Anne Simmons July 6, 1992, at Gardnerville, Nev. George was an officer with the California Highway Patrol for nine years, from1965 to 1967 at Los Angeles, Calif., and from 1967 to 1974 at South Lake Tahoe. He was a designer, builder and contractor and also taught skiing at Sierra Ski Ranch and Mt. Rose Ski Resort for six years. An outdoorsman and an avid hunter, he was a member of the National Rifle Association and Professional Ski Instructors Association and was active with Carson Valley Days.

He is survived by his wife Sheri Anne Asay of Gardnerville; son, Eric Asay of Reno; stepson, Marcel Choux; stepdaughter, Cethe Autumn Choux; father, Charles Asay of Santa Maria, Calif.; sisters, Rose Asay and Mona Lenore Souther; brothers, Alan Verne Asay and Brian Paul Asay; one grandchild; one niece; and two nephews.

Services will begin at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at Walton’s Chapel of the Valley, Carson City, Nev. The family will scatter his ashes in the Sierra Nevada. Messages may be sent to the family guestbook at and memorial contributions may be made to the National Rifle Association.
