Get clean with Bread & Broth

Provided to the Tribune

Tahoe’s Bread & Broth program is kicking off the spring cleaning season with an inaugural fundraiser, “Unclutter Your Home to Help Ours.”

Bread & Broth will sell gently used houseware donations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 31 to raise funds to serve a growing number of struggling community members.

The Bread and Broth program has provided hot meals to those in need every Monday for the past 20 years. Due to difficult economic times, the number of people served each week has rapidly increased, stretching the program’s community outreach budget to its limits.

“We’re taking the phrase, ‘Help us; help others’ to the next level”, said Evye Szanto, fundraising chairwoman. “Our goal is to transform community contributions of unwanted houseware items into a way of ensuring others won’t go without. Whether it’s a clutter-free area or a hot meal, everyone wins.”

Houseware donations will be accepted May 15-25 and sold May 31 at St. Theresa Grace Hall, on the corner of Lyons and Lake Tahoe boulevards. Accepted items include: small kitchen appliances, dishes, glassware, flatware, cookware, serving platters and bowls, candle stick holders, vases, barware, napkin rings, cookbooks, linens as well as lamps, sports memorabilia and other gently used household items.

For more information, contact Evye Szanto at (530) 570-7890, or e-mail evyeszanto@gmail.com. Or call Beverly in the church office at (530) 544-3533 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
