Get your oink on at the inaugural Truckee RibFest

TRUCKEE – With the inaugural Truckee Ribfest just days away, area chefs are busy fine-tuning their lip-smacking rib recipes, as a few lucky judges daydream about their enviable “job” on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 20, from noon – 4 p.m. at Citizens Bank Plaza.

Event officials announced that Anton “Toni” Standteiner will be the final judge for the Ribfest this Sunday. Nominated by his son Josef, age six, and daughter Florian, age three, Anton “Toni” Standteiner has been chosen to judge this mouth-watering event along with several foodie industry professionals.

Battling it out in this good-natured culinary competition are Smokey’s Kitchen, Jake’s on the Lake, Resort at Squaw Creek, JAX At The Tracks, Farmhouse Creations, Red Truck and FiftyFifty Brewing Company. The chefs’ rib creations are influenced by the traditional barbecue Meccas of the United States, as well as their own personal foodie flairs.

“Naturally, due to the competitive spirit of the event, each participant is likely to closely guard their rib-cooking secrets,” says Brinn Wellise of Switchback PR + Marketing, which is producing the event. “Suffice it to say, visitors and locals alike will not want to miss this mouth-watering event which includes entertainment for the entire family.”

Festivities also include a beer garden, bounce house and free live music by The Donner Party Picnic and the Deckheads. In between sets, InnerRythms Dance Studio dancers will perform for the crowd.

Just a few fortunate folks were tapped for the event’s judging panel. With a pile of paper napkins at the ready, Chaco Mohler, publisher of Tahoe Quarterly, Jaqueline “Jaci” Goodman, publisher of Edible Reno Tahoe and Charlie Good, publisher of The Weekly, will pronounce their verdict.

Tickets are $20 and include three sample plates from the restaurants or caterers of one’s choice. Tickets are available at Citizens Bank, Sears Hometown Store, the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce and Switchback PR. Tickets are also available at and include a complimentary Truckee Ribfest beer mug ($2 service charge applied to online ticket sales).

Relay For Life of Truckee, sponsored by The American Cancer Society, will be the event’s first nonprofit beneficiary. This year’s Relay For Life Truckee event is set for July 17-18.
