Giant pumpkin comes to town
For several years, there have been giant pumpkins in front of the Swiss Chalet Restaurant near Halloween. Jon Hunt, who holds the California state record for the largest pumpkin at 991 pounds, delivered a 704 pound pumpkin to executive chef Mark Baumann this year. It is now on display in font of the restaurant.
This pumpkin was planted on May 20 this year and the flower opened up on July 13. When the pumpkin was picked 73 days later, it weighed 704 pounds having grown at an average of 9.65 pounds a day.
