An 11-year-old Santee, Calif., girl died at Washoe Medical Center last week after drowning in Lake Tahoe two days earlier.

Laura Kettlewell was pulled out of the water about 3:30 p.m. June 29 near the Beacon Restaurant at Camp Richardson Resort.

She passed away July 1, said John Wheeler, spokesman for Washoe Medical Center.

The girl was reportedly face down in the water for about 45 seconds before being pulled from the water. Vacationing paramedics and an off-duty doctor were the first to treat Kettlewell, and South Lake Tahoe firefighters responded and took over CPR. Rescuers took her to Barton Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Medical personnel there were able to find a heartbeat, and she was flown via Careflight to Washoe Medical Center in Reno.

Sgt. Jim Watson of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said investigators found there was no negligence or wrongdoing involved.

Earlier reports stating the girl was 8 years old which were not accurate, Watson said.
