Girl’s death under investigation

Gregory Crofton

Called to the scene to investigate a suspicious circumstance, police officers arrived Wednesday at 1:37 a.m. and found an 11-year-old girl being treated at Barton Memorial Hospital’s emergency room.

After treatment failed, doctors pronounced Claudia Torres, a South Lake Tahoe resident, dead at 2:08 a.m.

Police said there were no immediate indications of what caused her death.

Torres’ identity was not known when she was admitted to the hospital, police said. Investigators only learned the girl’s name later by talking with friends and family.

An autopsy is pending to assist in determining the cause of death, according to South Lake Tahoe Police Officer Chuck Owens.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact South Lake Tahoe Police Department at (530) 542-6100.
