Give blood, get ice cream

Tribune

Beat the heat this August and join the thousands of Northern and Central California blood donors who are saving lives one pint at a time with BloodSource and Baskin-Robbins’ “Give a Pint — Get a Pint.” Donors who visit a blood drive near them will receive a coupon for a free pint of Baskin-Robbins ice cream.

Donate blood at the South Lake Tahoe community blood drive from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 19 at the South Lake Tahoe Branch Library, 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.

Blood donors make a difference to the lives of those in need. During the summer months many people head out of town on vacation without scheduling their regular blood donation first. At the same time, the warm weather encourages more outdoor activities, unfortunately increasing the number of accidents — and the number of patients needing lifesaving blood donations. So, while fewer people give blood, more patients need it. Everyone can help make sure that plenty of blood will be available this summer if they or a loved one needs it.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years of age, or 16 with parents consent, weigh at least 110 pounds and in generally good health. There is no upper age limit for donating. Donors should eat and drink plenty of fluids and bring a photo ID.

For more information about donating blood call Pat Amundson at (530) 544-4456 or BloodSource at (800) 995-4420 or visit the Web site at http://www.bloodsource.org.
