Glenn Edward Allen
Services will take place at 4 p.m. July 29 at the Valhalla Estate, Tallac Historic Site, for Glenn Edward Allen, who died July 23, 2004, at Barton Memorial Hospital. He was 77.
Glenn was born Sept. 24, 1926, at Alton, Ill., the only son of Glenn and Lula Allen. He graduated from Alton High School, served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 and was a graduate of George Williams College. Together he and his wife, Diane, moved to California where he was an executive with the YMCA of greater Los Angeles for 34 years – developing new YMCA locations and programs throughout the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles metro area. The two moved to one of his favorite places in the world – South Lake Tahoe in 1993, where he continued his involvement with Rotary and also volunteered with Barton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Tahoe Keys board of directors, Tahoe Heritage Foundation, ESIA, Friends of Lake Tahoe and the U.S. Forest Service.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Diane of South Lake Tahoe; children, Lynne McGowan of Simi Valley, Calif., John Allen and daughter-in-law, Kimber Allen of South Lake Tahoe, and Scott Allen of Santa Monica, Calif.; grandchildren, Molly, Kelly, Casey and Maggie of Simi Valley and Austin, Luke and Mark of South Lake Tahoe. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
