Golf course raises money for charitable causes

Lake Tahoe Golf Course’s American Golf Foundation Ambassador Program raised more than $56,000 this year in gross donations.

Volunteer ambassadors raised the money during the course’s six-month season for a variety of local and national charitable causes through on-course contests and other fundraising activities developed in partnership with the course’s American Golf management team led by General Manager Kevin Sommerfeld, according to a press release.

Rain or shine, day in and day out, and sometimes one dollar at a time, the course’s team of 39 AGF Ambassadors set aside their daily lives to donate their time collecting donations for nonprofit organizations that in 2013 have included the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League, Emily Clothier Scholarship Foundation, Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe, Barton Foundation, National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Jordan & Kyra Memorial Foundation for pediatric brain tumor research.

“What the AGF Ambassadors do is truly incredible,” Sommerfeld stated in a press release. “Many AGF Ambassadors are retired from their careers and instead of resting on their laurels, they dedicate their time, passion and energy to raising funds for outstanding causes that are greatly in need of financial support. At the same time, they have created a “family” of like-minded philanthropists who love their community, love golf, take pride in giving back, and help make Lake Tahoe Golf Course such a special place.”

Currently led by AGF Ambassador Captain Greg Butler, the AGF Ambassador program at Lake Tahoe Golf Course requires that each Ambassador volunteer for a minimum of two hours a week conducting a fundraising contest on one of the holes — though most donate much more time.

AGF Ambassadors for the 2013 season at Lake Tahoe Golf Course have included Tom Armstrong, Chris Audi, Marianne Bennett-Ham, Elaine Butler, Rick Defressine, Jerry Dozal, Don Elston, Hedy Elston, Bill Fagliano, Cameron Falls, Susan Falls, Mike Glass, Lulu Green, Norm Green, Hugh Ham, Doug Hazlett, Paul Imbruglio, Paul Jack, Howard Juretschke, Alex King, Kim Kubek, Jim Kubek, Bruce Lawrie, Jamie Lockhart, Phil Mabe, Joe Martin, Norm Mowat, Eric Ouellette, Mike Pardo, Tom Pettenato, Jeanne Pettenato, Brent Richard, Valerie Rost, Jason Scott, Vicki Thompson, Cathy Vogelgesang, Neil Wolf, Dennis Wright and Holly Wright.
