Good day for local Winter X participants
Qualifying went smoothly for Lake Tahoe-based boardercross and skiercross athletes on Friday at the Winter X Games.
South Lake Tahoe’s Joanie Anderson, the 2007 women’s boardercross winner, qualified fifth with a time of 1 minute, 49.805 seconds. Lindsey Jacobellis, the Olympic favorite, led qualifying with a time of 1:42.598.
In men’s boardercross qualifying, Nate Holland of Squaw Valley was second to Seth Wescott of Sugarloaf, Maine. Three-time event winner Shaun Palmer of South Lake Tahoe qualified 14th behind Pat Holland, Nate’s brother.
Two Lake Tahoe skiercross competitors were among the top 10 qualfiers. Former U.S. Alpine star Daron Rahlves of Truckee qualified seventh, while Truckee’s Errol Kerr was ninth. Chris Del Bosco of Vail, Colo., was the surprise qualifying leader.
