‘Grapes of Wrath’ discussed at library

The South Lake Tahoe Branch Library will host a pre-reading discussion of John Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath” at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at the library, 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.

The community is invited to join South Lake Tahoe Reference Librarian Mitch Ison in a “before-you-read” discussion designed to acquaint readers with Steinbeck and the complex social and literary environment surrounding the creation of his master novel.

All are welcome to attend the first of a series of events at the library. The California Council for the Humanities has 142 libraries statewide participating in a reading and story sharing program this October.

The second in the series will be a presentation of Ballads of the Dust Bowl Era and other songs of the 1930s by Dream Spirit Baroque Band at 2 p.m. Oct. 5.

The third program in the series is “Tidbits of the Dustbowl Era” by historian Lyn Landauer at 7 p.m. Oct. 22.

For more information call the library at (530) 573-3185. The library is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
