Lake Tahoe’s famed sternwheelers are set to do battle once again this holiday weekend.

The 23rd annual Great Lake Tahoe Sternwheeler Race is scheduled for Saturday morning and features the M.S. Dixie II taking on the Tahoe Queen in a Labor Day tradition.

“The Great Lake Tahoe Sternwheeler race pits Nevada’s beloved M.S. Dixie II against California’s Tahoe Queen in a four-mile race along the southeastern shoreline of beautiful Lake Tahoe to determine overall lake supremacy and the chance to win the coveted Tahoe Cup,” according to organizers.

Based out of Zephyr Cove this year, the race is set to start around 11 a.m. and will take place in the waters between Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course and Camp Richardson.

In addition to taking part in race festivities, guests onboard the vessels will be served a brunch buffet including everything from vegetable frittatas to tri-tip to cheesecake.

Tickets to board either vessel are $25 for adults and $10 for children.

The entire journey is expected to take about two hours.

Reservations can be made by calling 1-800-238-2463.
