Green film series begins this month

A League to Save Lake Tahoe monthly event featuring films and discussions about environmental issues begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Lake Tahoe Community College.

The Upper Truckee River Watershed Stewardship Group will present “Watersheds: Headwaters to Mouth” featuring “The Sacramento: River of Life” and “From Sea to Summit” in the Aspen Room.

Theresa Loupe, a hydrologist with the U.S. Forest Service, and Laurel Ames with California Watersheds Network will be the featured guests at the post-film discussion.

“From Sea to Summit,” uses surfers, snowboarders and skateboarders to educate viewers about the environmental significance of watersheds and traces the course of a watershed from high in the mountains to where in enters the sea. “The Sacramento: River of Life” explores the impact of the Sacramento River on California and the rest of the nation.

The Sierra Nevada Alliance has its annual film festival Feb. 22 in LTCC’s Duke Theater.

The Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival will feature about a dozen short- to medium-length films. For information, contact Kay Ogden at (530) 542-4546 orkay@sierranevadaalliance.org

On March 27, the topic will be ecosystem restoration at another event at the college.

For details, call the League to Save Lake Tahoe at (530) 541-5388 or e-mail Sarah Curtis at sarah@keeptahoeblue.org.
