Green Party will convene at Tahoe next week

Amanda Fehd

About 100 members of the Green Party of California will convene at Lake Tahoe Sept. 8 to 10 to discuss the party’s platform, election planning and infrastructure.

The party claims 146,000 members statewide, about 1,200 members in El Dorado County and 1,300 members in Placer County. It holds conferences two to three times per year in a different county, according to Michael Borenstein, who serves on the central committee of the Green Party of El Dorado County.

“We’ll be writing a statement on the elderly, immigration and clean air for our platform,” Borenstein said of next week’s conference.

The group will convene Sept. 9 at Lake Tahoe Community College, and Sept. 10 at the former Al Tahoe Elementary School. A fixed number of Green Party delegates from each county will attend, and guests are welcome.

The group will hold a fundraiser Sept. 9 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at the Blue Angel Cafe. California gubernatorial candidate Peter Camejo will be in attendance, along with several others running for statewide office.

California Green Party’s 10 core values:

Ecological wisdom

Grassroots democracy

Social justice

Community-based economics

Respect for diversity

Global responsibility
