Greenwave two-hits South Tahoe softball team

Steve Puterski, Tribune News Service

FALLON – Between snowstorms, the Fallon softball team was able to execute and come away with a 10-0 win over South Tahoe on Thursday at the Edward Arciniega Complex.

Fallon jumped on the Vikings early with a run in the bottom of the first inning and added three in the second.

“I though we played good defense,” Fallon head coach Phil Pinder said.

Jenny Rechel started the rally with an infield single, and was sacrificed to second base by Jill Pinder. Danielle Rothery walked and Cassie Bell singled to load the bases. Khaliah Brown hit a dribbler down the third-base line to score Rechel. Kaysee Archer struck out for the second out.

Sara Parsons singled to score Rothery and Bell to give Fallon a 4-0 lead. The Greenwave added three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to close out the game.

“It was probably the best game we played,” Pinder said.

The Vikings struggled at the plate, managing two hits and left three on base. Mel Smith and Missy Miller connected for STHS’s hits.

South Tahoe head coach Anneliese Neitling said it’s been tough for her team to practice with the recent snowfall in the mountains.

The Vikings were able to hit the field on Monday, but a snowstorm pounded the area and South Tahoe was relegated back to the gymnasium for practice.

“We came out kind of slow,” she said. “It showed in the first couple of innings.”

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday in Fallon starting at 10 a.m.
