Groundbreaking Kahle Phase II

Michael Schneider

Douglas County will undertake a $2.2-million bond issue later this month to pay for Phase II of Kahle Community Park construction.

A public hearing was held before commissioners voted to approve the bond sales. No member of the public commented.

County Manager Dan Holler said the county has already begun to advertise the bond sale and will go to the bond market on Oct. 21.

The Phase II building will be located next to the existing building that was built as part of Phase I of the park.

When completed it will contain a regulation basketball and volleyball court and an indoor jogging track. A weight room will also be incorporated into the new building.

A ceremonial groundbreaking was held for Phase II at the park Thursday. Scott Morgan, Douglas County community services director, said construction will likely begin in earnest next summer and the new building will be operational by fall 2000.
