Guard arrested on suspicion of raping inmate

On Friday, El Dorado County Sheriff’s officers arrested a guard at South Lake Tahoe Jail on suspicion of raping a female inmate.

Custodial Officer Michael Cooper, 33, was arrested based on statements made by the inmate, according to Brian Golmitz, spokesman for the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.

Cooper posted a $50,000 bond on Friday and a trial date has not been set.

“The Sheriff’s office is going to work closely with the district attorney’s office for aggressive prosecution here,” Golmitz said on Friday.
