The Sierra Nevada Guitar Society makes its South Lake Tahoe debut at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Theresa Catholic Church.

The quartet includes Jon Smart, a guitar instructor at Lake Tahoe Community College.

“We have three members with master’s degrees in music and the other has a Ph.D.,” Larry Aynesmith said.

Romantic classical music for the voice in the ear will be featured at the two-part performance. The quartet opens the show, followed be a second half with compositions by Franz Schubert accompanied by 1880s’ themed Victorian dancers.

Created in 2004, the Sierra Nevada Guitar Society previously played in Reno and Incline Village. It has performed intricate concerts the last two Christmas seasons.

“(Saturday’s performance) is more pleasing to the ear, a little more melodic and easy to access compared to some of the other pieces we my do,” Anyesmith said.

Micah Dunn and Steve Mattingly will accompany Smart and Aynesmith.

“We hope to draw people, do well and make (South Lake Tahoe) part of our schedule,” Anyesmith said.
