The Sierra Nevada Guitar Society makes its South Lake Tahoe debut at 7:30 p.m., tonight, Saturday at St. Theresa Catholic Church.

The quartet includes Jon Smart, a guitar instructor at Lake Tahoe Community College.

“We have three members with master’s degrees in music, and the other has a Ph.D.,” Larry Aynesmith said.

Romantic classical music for the voice in the ear will be featured at the two-part performance. The quartet opens the show, followed by a second half with compositions by Franz Schubert accompanied by 1880s-themed Victorian dancers.

Created in 2004, the Sierra Nevada Guitar Society previously played in Reno and Incline Village. It has performed intricate concerts the past two Christmas seasons.

“(Saturday’s performance) is more pleasing to the ear, a little more melodic and easy to access compared to some of the other pieces we may do,” Anyesmith said.
