Gun documentary at LTCC’s theater

In response to the overwhelming demand for tickets for “Bowling for Columbine,” two shows in addition to the regular Friday night show have been scheduled. The additional shows are noon, Jan. 31 and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1.

All shows are at the Lake Tahoe Community College Theater. Immediately after the Friday night show, which has been sold out, there will be an informal discussion about the film in the theater lobby and refreshments will be served.

The Friday night show has already sold out and the Saturday night show is more than half sold. However, there are still plenty of seats for the Friday noon show.

Tickets may be purchased at the college bookstore. Bookstore hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. If there are any seats left on the day of the showing, they will be sold at the box office beginning 45 minutes before show times. For information on availability of tickets call the bookstore at (530) 541-4660, press 1 for menu of departments, then press 4 for the bookstore. Recorded information about LTCC films can be obtained by calling (530) 541-4660, Ext. 512.

“Bowling for Columbine” is a brilliant documentary film by Michael Moore, director of “Roger and Me” and author of “Stupid White Men, and a commentary on the culture of guns and fear in America. The film is humorous, sorrowful and thought-provoking — all at the same time.

This is a masterful film because it both entertains and teaches and raises some serious questions about American society for which we must seek some answers.
