‘Hansel and Gretel’ are coming to MontBleu May 28-29
May 22, 2008
The Academy of Dance Arts will present its 14th annual spring concert at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, May 28-29, in the Montbleu Showroom.
“This year, we are very excited to present the ballet of the classic fairy tale ‘Hansel and Gretel,’ ” said Kelly O’Fallon, owner and director of the Academy of Dance Arts.
“The first half of the ballet introduces all of the creatures that inhabit the forest, such as butterflies, chickadees, bunnies and bluebirds. The vegetation of the forest is also represented with beautiful trees, lilacs, violets, daffodils and wildflowers gracing the stage with their beautiful costumes and choreography.”
“The story is complete with stars and angels dancing through the dreams of Hansel and Gretel, and even the evil witch makes an ominous appearance during a thunderstorm in the forest,” O’Fallon said. “The second half of the ballet is full of fantasy and sweets. I will stop there and not spoil the ending.”
After a brief intermission, the dancers will return to the stage for the jazz and tap portion of the show.
“This year, with the theme being ‘A World Beat,’ we chose many songs that are not in the mainstream,” O’Fallon said. “We found ourselves choreographing to songs sung in Spanish or French for example, and it was a real challenge. We have a very eclectic range of music as well as the beautiful ballads and funky hip-hop rap that people will recognize. It has a little something for everybody.”
