Heavenly blog: Friday opening day for skiing postponed

It looks like Heavenly Mountain Resort wants to wait a couple days before opening its mountain for skiing. Plans were in the works for a possible Friday opening if temperatures dropped enough to make snow. Some 70 snowmaking guns have been blazing to get runs on the mountain ready, however warm daytime weather may have hampered some of the efforts.

The following was posted on the Heavenly blogsite found at http://www.skiheavenly.com:

Opening Day Postponed

“Ugh, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but due to unseasonably warm weather and lack of natural snow we will not be able to open this Friday, November 16, as planned. We will open when we feel we have the quality snow surface conditions you all expect from Heavenly. We hope to be open for Thanksgiving weekend; weather permitting. Continue to check this website for updates.

“We have been able to make some snow this past week; however, not enough to give us the depth we need to sustain quality conditions. The good news is that our snowmaking system is ready on a moments notice and our dedicated crews are standing by to take advantage of any cold temps on the mountian. We are only a few good nights of snowmaking away from opening the upper Nevada side.

“This weekend’s forecast is calling for cooler temps with the chance of snow Friday and Saturday and more significantly on Sunday.

“Put on your boots and dance the snow dance!!”
