Heavenly cancels Wednesday opener

Heavenly Mountain Resort canceled plans late Monday to open on Wednesday. The South Lake Tahoe ski area is waiting for conditions cold enough to make snow for at least two more nights. It needs temperatures to dip to under 28 degrees to make snow – or a dumping from Mother Nature would do.

Two feet of snow now covers Big Dipper, Orion’s and Comet runs on the Nevada side, the area it traditionally opens first. But spokesman Russ Pecoraro said mountain operations needs more to fill in the gaps. This means snow to make connections between runs and build ramps off the chairlifts – Dipper Express and Comet Express.

Eager skiers and boarders are asked to check the snow phone (775) 586-7000 or http://www.skiheavenly.com for the latest conditions.
