November 19, 2009
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation will hold its annual ski and snowboard swap Friday and Saturday at the convention center in the MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa. The swap offers new and used equipment and clothing at low prices.
The Moonlight Madness pre-sale is today from 6 to 11 p.m. in the convention center. Admission is $5, children 12 and under are free. Admission is free for Saturday’s event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The foundation began in 1985 and is a local, nonprofit organization providing winter sport and competition programs for children age 5 to 18. Programs run weekly from Dec. 1 through April 1. The program is supported through fundraising efforts like the ski swap.
For youth who have spent some time on the slopes and want to take their sport to the next level or compete, the foundation offers one-day programs on Sundays, part-time programs for Saturday and Sunday, and a full-time program that includes weekdays, weekends and holidays. Prices vary accordingly.
The one-day program will introduce athletes to all terrains, including park, bump and gate training while they learn proper technique and skill progression. Part and full-time programs are geared for the skiers/boarders who want to improve their skills and compete at local and/or national levels.
New this season is the comeback of the freeride program, with a twist. Athletes in the freeride program will learn how to slide rails and jump. They will also be taught the fundamentals of proper turns, how to ski gates, how to excel in skier-cross, ski moguls, powder and big mountains.
