Heavenly prepares gondola to take passengers from Park Avenue to Tamarack

Starting at noon on December 21, the Heavenly Ski Resort gondola will begin taking passengers from Park Avenue to the Tamarack Express Chair, traveling a distance of 2,800 vertical feet in 12 minutes.

“Its taken a lot of hard work, and we’re really excited that it is finally opening,” said Monica Bandows, public relations for Heavenly.

Passengers will be charged $18 for a ride on the $20 million gondola. Skiers and snowboarders, who ride the gondola, will pay no more for a day of skiing than the price of a gondola ride. The 138-car gondola seats eight.

The gondola will provide easy access to the top of the mountain, which is 9,156 feet high. The 1500 square foot wrap around deck puts almost every inch of Lake Tahoe’s 72 mile shoreline within view, a peripheral that extends from Echo Summit on the left to Carson Valley on the right.

The project, which began in May, will include a 5,650 square foot base station off U.S. Highway 50 near Bandanas Pizza, where passengers will board the gondola.

There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m., and all lodges will have cake to celebrate the occasion. A fireworks show will launch from the gondola base station at 6:30 p.m.

Four pair of gondola seats in the first cabin up the mountain and VIP credentials for the day will be up for bid at the Heavenly Ski Foundation’s annual Winter Welcome dinner.

Dinner tickets are $75, and bids will begin at $2000 per package.
