Heavenly reopens Comet Express after injury incident Christmas week
STATELINE, Nev. – The Comet Express lift is open and operating normally according to an update from Heavenly Mountain Resort. Monday, Dec. 30 was the first day the chair had opened since an incident on Dec. 23 that sent five people to the hospital according to a prior report.
Upon reopening the lift, the resort issued the following statement:
“Safety is our top priority at Heavenly Mountain Resort, and we take this incident very seriously. Following a thorough inspection by the Heavenly team and the lift manufacturer, the issue was identified and resolved, and the lift was cleared for operations by the U.S. Forest Service.”
The resort did not respond to the Tribune’s inquiry on the cause of the incident.
The Tribune does not have information on the status of the five injured or the extent of their injuries. Initial reports were that at least three of them fell more than 30 feet from the lift.
