SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Heavenly Mountain Resort is set to break ground on a new, 14,980-square-foot on-mountain restaurant Friday.

The restaurant located at the top of Heavenly’s Gondola will offer 500 indoor seats and 250 outdoor patio seats.

“The lodge is transformational for Heavenly’s overall resort experience, allowing us to ramp up the quality and variety of our food while increasing comfort for our guests,” said Blaise Carrig, co-president of Vail Resorts’ Mountain Division. “While many resorts are pulling back, Heavenly is pushing forward, solidifying our position as Lake Tahoe’s leading destination resort.”

Set for completion in February 2011, the lodge will offer an open dining area designed to overlook the ski runs serviced by the Tamarack Express chairlift through a wall of floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The convenient scramble-style food court will offer an array of choices for guests. The lodge will also feature a bar offering both high table and bar seating. The restaurant will also offer a 4,320-square-foot patio.

The one-story lodge will reach a maximum height of 38.6 feet and will be designed to achieve basic LEED certification, according to the report.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board approved the lodge at its March meeting without discussion.

At that meeting, the governing board found the new day lodge will have no significant environmental effect and approved the proposed project subject to draft permit conditions during its regular meeting last week.
