STEAMBOAT, Colo. (TDT) – The Heavenly Freestyle Team sent three skiers to U.S. Freestyle Selection Events in Steamboat, Colorado Dec 17-22. Two former Heavenly athletes had excellent results as well.

There were three mogul events. Selection events qualify skiers for the Nor-Am tour and World Cup starts. There were 122 skiers from five nations at the three-day event. Heavenly’s three skiers are all only 14, competing in their first selections.

They all had great performances. Anna Park skied her best ever and qualified for the Nor Am tour. Taryn Baker threw her first 360s in competition. Shanti Payne did some beautiful back flips according to her coach Jere Crawford.

Ex-Heavenly athlete Jay Panther was granted two World Cup starts, along with another Ex-Heavenly athlete, Jake Hickman, securing two fourths. Hickman fractured his back training for the third event though.

“This event is an event of consistency you have to go out there and keep putting the same run down. I was able to do that and stay focused. Now I’m ready to ski some World Cup,” Prather said. “I didn’t get things done last year (on the World Cup). I will this year, without a doubt. I’m ready, I’ve been there before and it’s not going to be new. I’m excited and thankful for another opportunity.”
