Heavenly’s Mott Canyon chairlift re-opens following derailment
Heavenly Mountain Resort’s Mott Canyon chairlift re-opened Thursday morning after a Tuesday afternoon derailment, said resort spokesman Russ Pecoraro in an e-mail.
“At approximately 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, a male snowboarder at Heavenly Mountain Resort slid through the entrance gate at Mott Chairlift, hitting an outgoing chair and causing it to derail,” Pecoraro said. “The lift system worked as designed, automatically stopping the lift and preventing any further derailment.”
Heavenly Ski Patrol personnel lowered 14 people to safety using ropes. No injuries were reported. The lift received a post-incident inspection and opened at the normally scheduled time today, Pecoraro said.
