Help available for abused

Are you or someone you know in an abusive relationship? Are you living in fear? Do you feel like you’re walking on egg shells every minute your partner is around? If you partner using intimidation, coercion, threats or emotional abuse to gain power and control in your relationship?

These are just a few examples of behavior consistent with an abusive relationship. If this sounds familiar to you and you want to learn how to live a life free of fear and intimidation, we have the group for you.

Family Support Council of Douglas County is offering two Women’s Support Groups. Each group meets one night a week. You may attend from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday or 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. They also offer free childcare for women attending the groups. These groups are confidential and at no cost to you. We address subjects such as defining the types and patterns of abuse, why women stay, understanding the impact of abuse, abuse related issues, common responses to abuse and learning the common facets of a healthy relationship. Many women in an abusive relationship feel guilt and shame. They feel alone and don’t know what to do or where they can go for help. These groups are intended for such women and offer comfort, support, compassion and education.
