Help clean up Loon Lake next weekend

Provided to the Tribune

The Tahoe/Eldorado County Green Party is coordinating an event to clean up Loon Lake from Friday through Sunday. Participants can spend a day or the weekend with like-minded individuals and help the environment, too.

Loon Lake is 90 minutes from Lake Tahoe in the Crystal Basin on the back side of Rubicon Trail. There will be free camping at the Red Fir group campsite. The campsite has amenities, such as toilets, Dumpsters, water, a general store, paved road, fishing, hiking and swimming.

Volunteers will clean up areas that include the beach, roads and camp sites. This is a preventative measure to prevent trash from blowing into the lake. Forest Supervisor Charis Parker will provide the tools needed for cleanup, but bringing a pair of work gloves and sunscreen is recommended.

Volunteers may work four hours per day, Saturday and Sunday, or come up for one day only.

You must bring all your own camping gear.
