Henry Gray Murdock Jr.

Henry Gray Murdock Jr. passed away in Reno, Nev., Jan 1,2008, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Durham, N.C., Oct. 18, 1935.

His parents were Henry G. Murdock Sr. and Elizabeth Brock Murdock. He served in the Marine Corps with tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam. He studied history at the University of San Francisco. He then worked as an attorney for the US Army in Germany.

Henry was a deputy district attorney in Merced County and district attorney in Alpine County for 15 years. He then moved to Lake Tahoe and accepted court appointed cases as a defense attorney for El Dorado County. He also taught business at Lake Tahoe Community College. He enjoyed woodworking and garden projects. He loved to travel and was an avid reader, and excelled at weaving stories around his personal experiences and world history.

He is survived by his wife Carol, a teacher at South Tahoe Middle School, and his children, Rebecca Payton of Sunnyvale, Calif., Philip Sturgeon of South Lake Tahoe, Douglas Murdock of Durham, N.C., Catherine Medlin of Oakdale, Calif., and Victoria Rose of Killen, Ala., and his sister, Tess Pleasants of Winston Salem, N.C. Remembrances may be sent to Special Olympics, Team Tahoe, 3570 Bode, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150 or to the donor’s favorite charity.

California lifts virus stay home orders, curfew statewide


SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California lifted regional stay-at-home orders across the state Monday in response to improving coronavirus conditions, returning the state to a system of county-by-county restrictions, state health officials announced.
