Contrary to the myth, the poker-playing dogs in that painting are real.

Benefiting the Animal Coalition of Tahoe’s spay-neuter program and the El Dorado County Animal Shelter, the seventh annual Mutt Strut Poker Run will be Sunday, Oct. 9.

A 1.2 mile-walk with the canines will have five stops to pick up a playing card. Regarding the four-legged partners, please be considerate of the neighborhood by knowing “when to hold.”

A party at Timber Cove Marina includes raffle drawings, Chinese auction and the grand prize announcements for the best poker hands. New this year: a costume contest, best trick and best tail-wagger competitions, a scavenger hunt and other fun games. Prizes have been donated by hotels, restaurants, pet supply stores, spas and tanning salons.

Registration will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the Lake Tahoe Psychics, 3131 Harrison Ave. A requested donation for the first poker hand is $10, $25 for three hands, and includes snacks, giveaways and one raffle ticket per hand.
